Webinar: Advocating for Child in 504/IEP Process

A recording of our conversation with Dr. Karen Rosian, Todd Van Wieren and Diane Gould, LCSW on how to advocate for your PDA Child during the 504/IEP process. The conversation discusses the steps to request services, as well as identifying common accommodations, supports, or goals for school plans for children who fit the PDA profile (Pathological Demand Avoidance). We also discuss a bit about how to navigate when schools insist on Behavior Intervention Plans and how to have those worded to better identify how to have staff and teachers use more proactive strategies to support the student, rather than punitive measures that will only further dysregulate. Todd discusses supports and accommodations at the college level, and how to access those services as high schools tend to fail to prepare families.
